As Spring blossoms into view, we are reminded of the joys gifted to us from our abundant Earth. This April, “Chatham Earth Week” events are again hosted by the Chatham Conservation Foundation (CCF), Friends of Chatham Waterways, Friends of Trees, and many other groups. During the week of Earth Day and Arbor Day, from April 21st to 27th, several amazing events are planned. You won’t want to miss the Keynote Forum featuring Andrew Gottlieb, Executive Director of the Association to Preserve Cape Cod (APCC). He will present “Water Quality and the Town of Chatham” at 4 p.m. on April 22nd at the Chatham Community Center.
Everyone is invited to join the Town Cleanup on Saturday, April 26th (either at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., or BOTH), giving all locals opportunities to get involved and make an impact. There is something for everyone, including guided walks, an art supply swap, and activities for kids.
An incredible Film Series and Panel Discussion is planned for Wednesday morning, April 23rd at 10:00 a.m. at the Chatham Orpheum. Entitled “Saving Chatham’s Waters” (by Friends of Chatham Waterways), featuring WHOI videos “Saving Our Ponds,” followed by a panel discussion with Kristin Andres, Association to Preserve Cape Cod; Susan Bauer, Old Ladies Against Underwater Garbage; Renee Gagne, Chatham Shellfish Constable; and Rob Faley, Chatham DPW Director. Natalie Coleman-Fuller, Friends of Chatham Waterways board member, will be the moderator. The event is free, and FCW will be officially launching its water pledge program here!
Also, look for details at ccfinc.org about the tree sapling giveaways (by Friends of Trees) to make an Earthly impact right in your backyard. While most events are free of charge and open to the public, be sure to register online at https://ccfinc.org/.
We are gearing up for a great celebration, with this year’s theme of “water” in mind as we reflect on our Earth’s resources. Thanks to the gifts and resources given from Earth, we’re grateful for this opportunity to come together with our community in celebration.
These events would not be possible without the generosity of Cape Cod 5, the Women’s Club of Chatham, and the Chatham Cultural Council. We’ll spotlight all of the local participants in an upcoming blog of appreciation.
